That’s West Ham… never a dull day with this club

Just hours after having appointed the new manager, instead of having steadied the ship, the owners now had to deal with a bid for the club made by businessman and F1-team Lotus-principal Tony Fernandes (pictured right). The owner of Air Asia, who had tried to buy West Ham back in 2010 but had fallen short to David Sullivan/David Gold, wrote on his Twitter account that he was making a bid for the club.

This claim sparked speculation over new manager Sam Allardyce‘s future at West Ham, as the former Blackburn and Newcastle manager has twice been sacked by owners that did not employ him.

But West Ham co-owner David Sullivan was quick to assure Allardyce that his job was safe: “The whole thing is nonsense. I can assure Sam he has an unbreakable two-year contract and he is the perfect man for the job.”On the official website West Ham a statement said that they would welcome a potential co-investor, but that the present owners had no intention to sell the club.

Well, there’s never a dull moment with the Hammers … and what really puzzles me: @tonyfernandes‘ offer came just one day after I had started to follow him on Twitter. In the meantime @tonyfernandes has told the West Ham owners that they can say whatever they want:

“I have been a lifelong fan and would have brought good money , good ideas, new people and a new belief”

Discussing an offer on Twitter is really a new way of making business, isn’t it?! Well, real new business can be made at West Ham’s new official Online Store which has been relaunched and is open for business from Wednesday.
